About
James DiChristofano
A boutique Illinois practice built on strategic judgment, tactical thinking, creative problem-solving, and direct advocacy, with a significant focus on foreclosure defense, mortgage litigation, and appellate matters.
DiChristofano & Associates LLC represents a select group of business owners, businesses, contractors, property owners, and individuals who need more than ordinary legal advice. With more than two decades of experience, James DiChristofano is trusted for strategic judgment, tactical thinking, creative problem-solving, and direct advocacy when the answer is not obvious, the stakes are real, and the path forward is not always straight or easy.
Jim's practice is centered on business, construction, real estate, litigation, and appellate matters. Many of his clients are businesses, contractors, construction companies, property owners, and closely held companies. He also represents individuals in foreclosure defense, residential real estate transactions, and estate planning. Those areas are not separate silos. They often overlap, because business owners, contractors, homeowners, borrowers, and property owners frequently face related issues involving contracts, debt, real estate, ownership, risk, and litigation.
Transactional work informed by litigation
Because Jim handles both sides of the work, agreements are not reviewed in isolation. A contract or lease is read with an eye toward how it would hold up if the relationship broke down: whether the terms are enforceable, where the exposure sits, and how a dispute over the document would actually play out. When a matter does become contested, that same perspective shapes strategy around leverage, evidence, procedure, and reaching a result that brings the matter to a close.
Foreclosure, mortgage, and appellate work
Foreclosure defense and mortgage litigation are a significant part of the practice, handled as litigation rather than paperwork. That work has extended to the appellate level, including foreclosure-related litigation before the Illinois Appellate Court and the Illinois Supreme Court. You can read more on the foreclosure defense and mortgage litigation page.
